Properties: It is slightly soluble water and acid solubility. BeS is unstable in humid air and breaks down into a loose mixture of oxide, hydroxide, and basic beryllium carbonate.
Application:
Beryllium sulfides and selenides are intriguing materials for lengthening the lifespan of optical devices made of other II-VI semiconductors due to their large energy gap and hardness. This is accomplished by forming multicombinatory alloys, particularly with ZnS or CdS. Element is widely applied in aerospace and military industries.
